The past months, Governor Manuel N. Mamba proposed a very significant vision for the province of Cagayan. Dubbed as the “Cagayan Looking Northward” program, this dream seeks to put the province in the country’s map as a major economic, tourism and investment hub.

“Cagayan is now gearing for a new journey that needs the cooperation and the collaboration of all Cagayanos. We have been lagging behind countries in Asia. Korea, China, Japan and other countries who were once behind us are now taking the lead in Asia. The members of the ASEAN countries are very far from Cagayan. I believe that our nearer neighbors such as Taiwan, China, Japan and Korea can have a big impact in our economic development and as such I feel that we need to ‘look northward’ from where we are. Thus, we are promoting “CAGAYAN LOOKING FORWARD,” a vision that will open opportunities for Cagayan not only for economic purposes, but also for tourism and agriculture development,” the Governor said.

In line with this vision, this year’s Aggao Nac Cagayan celebration (a festivity that commemorates the 435th founding anniversary of the civil government of the province) will focus on various activities that will promote the various offerings of Cagayan in terms of its rich culture, heritage, traditions, tourism, agricultural and investment offerings. These will highlight the bountiful treasures of Cagayan that make the province worthy of becoming a key player in the economic activities in the north.

This year’s Aggao Nac Cagayan celebration will feature a line-up of colorful and exciting activities. The festivities will be led by the Provincial Government of Cagayan under the leadership of Governor Mamba. Various Committee Heads from Capitol’s departments and offices had been assigned to lead various events.

The celebration will kick-off on June 23, 2018 with a cycling event named “Grand Pidal Viaje Northward.” Participants will start in Tuguegarao City and travel to Sta. Ana then back to Tuguegarao City. The first Grand Pidal Viaje was first launched in last year’s Aggao Nac Cagayan where the cyclists reached Sub-capitol in Bangag, Lal-lo where the festivities officially started.

Simultaneous with the kick-off activity will be the opening of Paddarafunan (Trade Fair) in the morning. This will run until July 1, 2018 at the Leonardo Mamba Gymnasium at the Cagayan Sports Complex. The fair will feature Cagayan’s best product offerings in a Product and Technology Display. There will also be a Trading Post Auction, Night Market and Cultural Shows.

After the opening day, a series of activities will start rolling for the public, including a Eucharistic celebration, Gaggayam Nac Cagayan, Agkaykaysa Forum, Sand Sculpturing in Aparri, Hospitals Beautification and Zumpabaruen. To cap the day, a cultural show featuring a local band will be staged at Mamba Gym.

Other activities of Aggao Nac Cagayan will also include Coastal Clean-up, Job Fair, Bloodletting, Konsierto Agkaykaysa, Mural Painting, Makan and Linubian Festival, Bangkarera, 2nd Pabaruen ti Cagayan Shootfest, 15th Cagayan Dog Show, Gabi na Pattaradday, Cagayano Singing Idol, Pabaruen ti Cagayan Regional Age Group Taekwondo Competition.

Also, this year the Marian Voyage of Peace and Love will bring together nineteen (19) venerated Blessed Virgin Mary images to the province from the various churches in the country for Cagayano devotees.

Meanwhile, part of the cultural promotion of the province is the renovation of the Tribunal de Tuguegarao as the new home for the Cagayan Historical and Research Center which will be known as Museo de Cagayan. There will be a soft opening of this Cagayan historical infrastructure on June 26, 2018.
Dangal ng Lahing Cagayano Search will also be on its second series this year. The search will award notable Cagayanos in two categories- Gintong Medalya and Natatanging Cagayano Awards. This event seeks to recognize exemplary and distinguished Cagayanos who have shown excellence in their various fields and have been recognized in the national and international arena.

The Cagayan Art and Creative Writing Awards will also be staged for the first time in this year’s founding anniversary. The competitions aim to highlight the rich culture and heritage of Cagayan through art creations and written literature.
The Aggao Nac Cagayan 2018 festivities will be studded with night concerts and cultural shows. The cultural shows will feature local talents from different municipalities.

Other national government agencies, the academe, non-government organizations, private establishments and companies have partnered with the Provincial Government in bringing this year’s Aggao Nac Cagayan celebration.
Major sponsors of this year’s founding anniversary celebration include Globe Telecomm and Ginebra San Miguel. Other establishments and individuals have also extended their generosity to make this event a success. (MIA BAQUIRAN)
